How to Search Anoka County Court Records
Most public Anoka County court records sit inside Minnesota Court Records Online, also called MCRO. The portal hosts four search tabs: Case Search, Document Search, Hearing Search, and Judgment Search. Case Search runs lookups by party name, business name, attorney name, case number, citation number, or attorney bar number. Document Search pulls public PDFs by case number. Hearing Search looks up future hearings. Judgment Search finds docketed money judgments by debtor name.
The state opens the portal at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us/CaseSearch. The Minnesota Judicial Branch landing page at Access Case Records links into the same portal. Read the MCRO FAQ before a serious search so the result list does not surprise you.
- Open MCRO and pick a tab. Use Case Search for the broadest run, Document Search when you have a case number, Hearing Search for future court dates, or Judgment Search for money judgments.
- Open the Locations panel and switch from All Locations to County. Filter the county list to find Anoka, then check the box.
- Set the case categories. Civil (CV), Criminal (CR), Family (FAM), and Probate (PR) all start checked. Uncheck any you do not need.
- Enter the search fields. Person name takes Last Name and First Name as required; middle name, date of birth, and Soundex narrow the list.
- Click Search. Review the results, then open a case to see the Register of Actions, hearings, parties, and public PDFs.
- If the case is sealed, family, juvenile, or pending criminal, search by case or citation number instead, or contact Court Administration at (763) 760-6550 for copies.
The state's MCRO FAQ covers screen-reader behavior, name search tips, and why a defendant name search may return no result on a pending case.
The FAQ also recommends using Adobe Reader or another PDF viewer for documents downloaded from MCRO.
Anoka County Court Records Search Fields

Types of Anoka County Court Records
Anoka County District Court holds the file on every state trial matter for the county. MCRO sorts the cases into four broad categories. Some matters do not show online at all.
The state's MCRO overview page spells out which document types post online based on case type and filing date. Documents filed on or after July 1, 2015, are online for major and minor criminal and civil cases and for formal probate, other probate, guardianship and conservatorship, and trust cases. Family cases and post-adjudication paternity cases show only court-prepared orders, opinions, and notices.
- Civil cases: lawsuits, conciliation court (small claims), evictions, name changes, contract disputes, and money judgments.
- Criminal cases: misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, and felony filings with charges, dispositions, and sentences.
- Family cases: divorce, child support, custody, paternity, harassment, and domestic abuse files. Remote document access is limited.
- Probate cases: formal probate, other probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and trust files.
- Traffic cases: citations and misdemeanors processed in District Court. The traffic court records page covers them in depth.
- Juvenile cases: delinquency and CHIPS files. Many records are blocked from MCRO.

Use Judgment Search when you need to find a docketed civil money judgment by debtor name.
Public Access Framework for Anoka County Court Records
Two systems drive court record access in Anoka County. County executive-branch and Sheriff records sit under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Court files sit under the Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch, which the state publishes on its court rules page. The Judicial Branch posted Rules of Public Access effective April 1, 2025.
The default rule is access. Minn. Stat. § 13.03 opens public government data for inspection without ID. The court's rule on remote access is more limited; courthouse public access terminals in Anoka County District Court hold the most complete electronic case files.
Note: Online court records are not the official court record; verify case details at the courthouse counter before relying on them in a filing.
The rules page also hosts the Rules of Criminal Procedure (effective March 1, 2025) and Rules of Civil Procedure (effective January 1, 2025).
Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Anoka County
Several record types are off-limits to remote search. Civil commitment, harassment, domestic abuse, CHIPS, and felony delinquency for ages 16 and older are blocked from MCRO. Juvenile delinquency files fall under Minn. Stat. § 260B.171. Adoption records sit under Minn. Stat. § 259.61. Expunged criminal files are sealed under Chapter 609A.
To open a sealed record, file a motion or petition in the case of origin and serve the agencies that hold copies. The state's Criminal Expungement help topic walks through petition-based, automatic, mistaken-identity, prosecutor-agreed, and cannabis expungement.
Automatic expungement reduces the need for a petition for many qualifying cases, but not every record qualifies.
